Tarot Spread Tuesday: Deck Introduction Spread

It’s the very first Tarot Spread Tuesday!  Woot, woot!!

To go along with April’s theme of “Introductions,” I thought a Deck Introduction Spread (aka:  New Deck Interview Spread) is in order.

We all get new decks from time to time, whether we purchase them new or secondhand, trade for them or are gifted them.  And sometimes it really helps to know where you and your deck stand in relation to each other before starting to work with it regularly.

Over time, you will get to know your deck intimately and learn how best to use it (e.g., what situations it reads best for, its quirks, etc.).  But you can save yourself some trouble if you allow your deck to introduce itself to you!

There are two key aspects that this spread tries to address:

  • The deck’s strengths and weaknesses
  • The relationship you can have with the deck

And, of course, there are some general issues that are factored in, too!

The goal, ultimately, is to get better acquainted with a deck, even if you've worked extensively with the deck before, and to let it speak for itself. We will be better equipped to develop our relationships with our decks if we allow for two-way communication, and that means letting the deck speak for itself.

Now, on to the Deck Introduction Spread!

  1. Introduce yourself.  What is your specialty as a deck?  What makes you unique?
  2. Shade.  What are your weaknesses as a deck?  What can't you handle?
  3. Shine.  What are your strengths as a deck?  Where do you excel?
  4. Core.  What can you teach me?  How can I best learn from you?
  5. Complement.  What can I do to read/work with you better?
  6. Achieve.  What can we accomplish together?

I'm sure there are many elements in common with other new deck spreads out there.  After all, we're all looking for similar information.  But I wanted this particular Deck Introduction to focus more on our relationships with our decks rather than just the deck itself.

So let’s see the Deck Introduction Spread in action!

Looooovely! It definitely looks like a more down-to-earth deck. And, dare I say it? It could also be quite good for relationship readings!

And there you have it!  I hope you try out and enjoy this spread.  Let me know if you did and how it worked out for you.
